Itineraries from the sacred to the profane in the sacramental plays by Lope de Vega
Abstract
This article proposes an integral study about a corpus of sixteen sacramental plays by Lope de Vega, which are those confirmed as by his authorship during the firt half of the sixteenth century (the four that appear in El peregrino en su patria, in 1604, and twelve published from its manuscript version by José Ortiz de Villena in 1644, under the title Fiestas del Santísimo Sacramento, repartidas en doce autos sacramentales con sus loas y entremeses). The approach is based on the hybridization of sacred topics with profane subjects, that is to say, we inquire about the systemic imbrication in the dramatic construct of the religious argument with the exposition of issues inherent to the socio-historical-cultural context of production.
