Le voyage de « l’individu » : De l’exil à l’autodérision Méfiez-vous des parachutistes, de Fouad Laroui (roman, 1999)

Abstract

This article sheds light on the "trip of the individual" in the novel by Fouad Laroui, Méfiez-vous des parachutistes, published in 1999. In the novel, it is a question of a return to the native country: the return of the protagonist, The Engineer Machin, in Morocco which represents a different departure for the individual, who has a very particular vision on the modern Moroccan society. Correlatively, I will try to emphasize this observation, by analyzing the anthropic dimension of this trip, especially the involvement of the individual in the host culture. In order to do this, we will try to study, at the same time, the humorous dimension in this travel narrative, in order to be able to demonstrate that the protagonist engages in a game of incessant self-derision which has got some esthetic and intellectual functions, that I will explain throughout this article.
