In May 2004, Slovenia entered the European Union. Since then some operating conditions for geodetic companies, public administration, public institutions and the university have been changed. Above all, a series of permanent processes has begun, changing the Slovenian geodesy in the long-term. The results of an inquiry performed among geodetic companies and institutions about the situation, wishes and goals of the geodetic branch with regard to the acquisition of EU funds are analysed in this article. In 2005, geodetic companies acquired on average about 2% of income from the EU and international financial sources. The extent of the projects was either small or medium sized. The aim of the companies and institutions until 2008 is very ambitious, since they want to gain about 20% of income, which is more than ten times the amount of 2005. The basic step towards success is the identification of problems and EU policies for which the financing is intended. We would like to emphasizethe process of programming and developing of new ideas (state of the art). The latter asks for investments into new knowledge and new ways of organizing. The biggest differences brought by the European projects in geodesy are the size of the projects, the duration aswell as the necessity for a planned approach. Because of the length of the projects, it is sensible to use the EU funds for the development of new services and products that would bring a long-term benefit.
