The Mothers of Plaza de Mayo and their Legacy in Defending Human Rights
Abstract
The Mothers of Plaza de Mayo is one of the most important social organizations in Latin America and the world due to its contributions to the construction of historical memory throughout their thirty-five years of work defending human rights. For this reason, it has been studied widely in the social sciences, including historical, political, legal, socio-cultural, and, of course, gender analyses. On the basis of a review of the history of the consolidation of the movement, this article discusses the “socialization of motherhood” as a political proposal of the Mothers of Plaza de Mayo.
