Karakteristik Kayu Kelapa di Berbagai Zona di Indonesia Timur Berdasarkan Sifat Fisis dan Mekanisnya

Abstract

The mechanical properties and phisical properties of coconut tree is evaluated in this paper. The aim of this paper is to determine the characteristics of coconut trees from several location in North Sulawesi (at 4 regions) and North Maluku (at 2 regions). This research was conducted through laboratory testing, which is based on ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials). Test results showed that the outer bottom part of the coconut tree gives the superior perfomance than that of coconut tree from other parts. Moreover, the values of most types of testing i.e. specific gravity, moisture content, compressive strength parallel to grain, compressive strength perpendicular to grain, hardness, shear strength parallel to grain, tensile strength parallel to grain, skrinkage in volume, and bending strength of coconut tree, tends to give the same trend.
