The aim of this paper is to describe a model of collaboration between the academic sector and other sectors, in particular the private sector that improves and accelerates the uptake of cutting-edge science into practice. We analyse the research and innovation space in Slovakia also in comparison with other countries. We provide an example of the implementation of the academic-business collaboration model by introducing the Kempelen Institute for Intelligent Technologies, which can be envisioned as a catalyst for the innovation ecosystem in Central Europe and specifically in Slovakia in the field of intelligent technologies also in connection to other disciplines. We discuss the potential of the described approach, especially in the context of talent and its circulation.
