Abstract

This is the translation of the following text: Edmund Husserl, Geschichtlicher Überblick über die Philosophie der Mathematik (WS 1887/88), in Husserliana XXI. Studien zur Arithmetik und Geometrie. Texte aus dem Nachlass (1887-1901), edited by Ingeborg Strohmeyer, Den Haag, Nijhoff, 1983, pp. 216-33. Text translated by Andrea Ariotto, Baris Dirican and Davide Pilotto and reviewed by Marianne Berlie. In this text, Husserl sets out his standpoint on the role of mathematics as a paradigm of scientific knowledge, and on the importance of the debates around the status of mathematical knowledge for the development of different philosophical positions. He gives particularly importance to the debate between Hume and Kant.
