Training Instructors of Arabic in Indonesia and Brunei Darussalam
Abstract
This study is comprised of two parts ; the first part is a general survey of the situation of teaching Arabic in Indonesia and Brunei and the programs of training teachers of Arabic in the institutions of higher learning in Indonesia and the University of Brunei Darussalam. The paper will also deal. in this part, with in-service training programs in Indonesia and Brunei Darussalam as well as with the modalities of training teachers and the modem trends in training teachers of Arabic to speakers of other languages. The second part of the study is field work conducted in ten Indonesian universities , with departments of Arabic , and during a training course held at the University of Brunei Darussalam for training teachers of Arabic in Brunei secondary schools. Two questionnaires were distributed to respondents aiming at clarifying the following : 1- Content of the curricula of colleges for training teachers of Arabic . 2- Actual training received by university and secondary school instructors of Arabic in Indonesia and Brunei Darussalam . The author analyzed the data . drew the conclusions of the study , and came forward with suggestions aiming at improving the quality of training teachers of Arabic in Indonesia and Brunei Darussalam .
