無List server is a groups discussion system in BITNET, one of the leading academic networks in the world. The importance of information produced by List Server is easy to realized by the saying that scholars' study, work and research habits are changed by it. This article describes the application of List Server to information services in libraries. Emphases are put on how to find out the appropriate list names, how to get data files and how to do online search from it and so on. Five points which should be paid special attention by librarians are concluded: (1) understand the unique characteristics of information in academic networks; (2) prepare for new reference questions arisen from academic networks; (3)study the rules for prescribing information cited from academic networks; (4) expand the traditional bibliographic control to information in academic networks; (5) be aware of the limitations of using List Sener, then use it flexibly.
