The system of taxon Bothriomyrmex Emery, 1869 sensu lato (Hymenoptera: Formicidae) and relatives genera
Abstract
The system of Bothriomyrmex sensu lato was uncertain for a long time. In this article all Palearctic species with known only from Costa Rica B. paradoxus Dubovikov et Longino [Dubovikov, Longino, 2004], are considered to be among species of genus Bothriomyrmex Emery, 1869 s.str. (palp formula - 4:3 - 4 maxillary segments, 3 - labial, the forewing of female with closed discoidal cell); Oriental species - belong to genus Chronoxenus Santschi, 1919 stat. n. (palp formula - 2:3, the forewing of females with closed discoidal cell and some reduced cubital and medial veins); Australian species - belong to the new genus - Arnoldius gen. n., and are described here (palp formula - 2:2, the forewings of female with opened discoidal cell). The new system for two monophyletic groups (Ctenobethylus + Nebothriomyrmex + Bothriomyrmex + Chronoxenus + Arnoldius + Loweriella) and (Iridomyrmex + Ochetellus + Papyrius + Philidris +Froggattella + Turneria) (Iridomyrmex genus group sensu Shattuck, 1995) is proposed. Both of these groups are combined into one new tribe Iridomyrmecini tr. n, whereas the former one belongs to the new subtribe - Bothriomyrmecina subtrib. n., and the second one - to the Iridomyrmecina subtrib. n. Philogenetic relations within tribe Iridomyrmecini trib. n. is proposed. Generic-level relationship of the remaining genera of Dolichoderinae are confused and needs full revision. Genera, which were not included in groups mentioned above were placed in tribe Tapinomini Emery, 1912 stat. rev., to which they were belong before Shattuck [1992] work. These and remaining genera, placed in other tribes, are indicated on the generic-level relationships scheme as Others Dolichoderinae, till their taxonomical status and rank are refined. Lectotypes of Bothriomyrmex myops Forel, 1895 and B. flavus Crawley, 1922 are designated.
