La champeta también tiene cosas que decir: microrresistencias, empoderamiento, activismos

Abstract

This article focuses on the musical and cultural phenomenon of champeta (Colombian Caribbean), with an emphasis on the discourses of the genre's songs. Long considered superficial and impoverished, in the image of a culture denigrated and perceived as denigrating, the champetúo discourse, however, conceals an underestimated linguistic richness and political significance. In the light of the concept of micro-resistance, we will study the multiple subjects of several songs whose language, rooted in popular neighborhoods and belonging to Colombian costeño Spanish, is also the object of common linguistic contempt. We will then see that the champetúo discourse is also capable of articulating forms of resistance related to issues specific to the major cities’ neighborhoods of Colombia's Caribbean coast.
