El Partido Social Democrata en la ‘corriente de retorno’ ibérica: reubicación e impugnación del 25 de Abril

Abstract

The experience of the Partido Social Democrata (PSD) during the post-revolutionary period (1976-1982) led to an ideological shift from the original social democratic credo to its current center-right position. In this tortuous path that brought the PSD to power at the beginning of 1980, the “impugnation” of the Carnation Revolution and its legacies, as well as the goal of reforming Portugal’s new democratic system, are key issues that have not been sufficiently explored. This article analyzes these aspects in the context of the so-called “Iberian Ebb” when certain Portuguese social and political sectors were influenced by the experience of the Spanish Transition in order to achieve a major convergence with the EEC model.
