Book studies, library studies and bibliography studies achievements of Stepan Siropolko in exile: according to publications from the funds of the V. I. Vernadskyi National Library of Ukraine
Abstract
The purpose of the article is to publish the publications of S. Siropolko authorship from the funds of the V. I. Vernadskyi National Library of Ukraine, which reveal the scientific achievements of the scientist in the field of book studies and library and bibliographic affairs in exile during 1920-1959. The research methodology is based on the use of objective and comparative analysis of selected publications from the funds of the V. I. Vernadskyi National Library of Ukraine. The principle of historicism provided an in-depth consideration of the subject of research, helped determine the place and role of the personality of S. Siropolko in the development of Ukrainian bibliography, library studies and bibliography studies in the context of a specific historical time and emigration conditions. Thanks to the use of methods of analysis and synthesis, bibliographic and document studies, it was possible to analyze the content of individual editions of the specified topic, to find out their features, correspondence of the content of the books to the chosen topic. The scientific novelty consists in revealing the bibliographic, librarian and bibliographic works of S. Siropolk as one of the most active representatives of the Ukrainian emigration of the first half of the 20th century. Specific theoretical and practical achievements of the scientist during the period of emigration in the declared areas of activity are given. Conclusions. From the mid-1930s of the XX century Ukrainian bibliographic studies took place only in emigrant centers and the diaspora, therefore S. Siropolko’s books and publications of the emigration period, devoted to issues of book studies, bibliography and library studies, are a significant contribution to the study of the history of Ukrainian culture outside of Ukraine and in the modern state of Ukraine. S. Siropolko was outstanding bibliographer, bibliographer, library specialist, was one of the most active representatives of Ukrainian emigration in the first half of the 20th century.
