Genetic Variability in Hill Lemon Strains (Citrusapseudolimon Tanaka) under Punjab Conditions
Abstract
In Punjab (India), preponderance of Hill lemon seedlings are found growing at scattered/isolated areas in the various citrus growing agro climatic zones and chance for the selection of elite strains are high due to wide genetic diversity in the exiting germplasm. In order to reveal the genetic variability in Hill lemon (Citrus pseudolimon Tanaka) the fruit samples from diverse areas of province were collected and analysed for various physic-chemical attributes. In the present investigation wide range of variability with respect to fruit characters like fruit weight, juice weight, seed number, rind thickness and core diameter have been recorded. This variability can be exploited for the selection of elite genotypes for conservation, evaluation, utilization and a source for crop improvement in future breeding programme.
