This article outlines Vilém Flusser’s philosophy of the image and thus exposes a central aspect of his philosophy of media. Following the evolution of technical images, I present Flusser’s concepts of photography, film, video and computer graphics, and show what questions of philosophy of technology about the relationship between man, machine and perception are contained in these studies, which at the same time give an insight into a complex history of Flusser’s publications and translations. In this course, basic concepts of Flusser’s thinking are touched upon in relation to questions of image philosophy. Finally, we ask what significance they may have for contemporary digital culture.
