Community Heritage Resources and Crisis Management in Rural Nigeria
Abstract
This study investigates the role of community heritage resources in crisis management in rural Nigeria. Descriptive survey research design and ethnographic method were adopted for the study. Although Yaro Yemen formula was used in downsizing the sample size for the quantitative survey to 399, cluster and purposive sampling techniques were used in downsizing the sample size for interview sections to 50 informants. This size was sampled from five states (Enugu, Borno, Akwa-Ibom, Plateau, and Ondo states) in Nigeria. Data from questionnaires were analyzed using mean and standard deviation, and the hypotheses were tested using the t test. More so, qualitative data were analyzed descriptively. Results from the six indices that were investigated revealed that heritage resources contribute significantly to crisis management in rural Nigeria.
