Estancias pampeanas: arquitectura y territorio en el campo argentino
Abstract
This work is a product of a chapter from my doctoral thesis titled "Geohistory of Northwestern Buenos Aires Province: Territories, Frontier, Region," which examines the processes of changes and territorial transformations in the Argentine Pampas and how these processes influenced the construction of the region. This excerpt addresses the territorial challenges faced by the estancias – productive Pampean large estates – between the late 19th and early 20th centuries, as well as adaptations in housing and its surroundings, in a context where urban culture intertwined with rural productive world. The research is based on a mixed-method methodology, with a quantitative-qualitative design, involving documentary and statistical analysis, bibliographic and cartographic review, and fieldwork. Three stages are presented that characterize the estancia as a territorializing vector of Northwestern Buenos Aires Province, highlighting the dimensions – social, economic, political, cultural, or environmental – involved.
