Masques et miroirs de l’Empereur autour du sacre : Lemercier et Chénier
Abstract
When is it possible to legitimately speak of a "mask of Napoleon"? When it was the author's intention, when contemporary criticism or theatre-goers suggest this reading. Today we will try to approach the tragic theater through two authors Lemercier and Chénier. Both authors wrote of "political" tragedies, both were victims of censorship, both presenting to the emperormasks transparent enough to serve as mirrors.
