Highlights • Ring culture system induces distinct changes in actomyosin organization at the iPSC colony edge. • Removal of ring culture system induces collective cell migration at the iPSC colony edge. • Collective cell migration modulates self-organized fate patterning decisions in iPSC-derived gastrulation-stage meso–endoderm. • Cadherin switching during collective cell migration enhances endodermal differentiation.
