This paper aims to assess whether undergraduate courses in Civil Engineering at public universities in the state of Pernambuco, Brazil, meet the expectations of the professional demands, focusing on: the environmental sustainability, the humanistic issues and the technological innovations. The Content Analysis methodology was used, from the pre-analysis, material exploration and treatment of results, as recommended by Laurence Bardin. Besides that, the academic plans of five undergraduate courses and two interviews with engineers, who have worked in the labor market, were considered. The results demonstrate that environmental issues and technological innovation are present in these academic plans, but teacher training is little covered in these documents. In addition, the interviews carried out with professionals show that there is little articulation between engineering training and the needs for professional demands.
