Since there are very little data on the distribution of the fish species Umbra krameri Walbaum 1792 in Croatia, a research was carried out in 1996 and 1997 on watercourse in the flood area of the river Drava basin around the town of Virovitica. The aim of this research was to find possible new natural locations, within the context of protection and survival of this endemic and rare species. The catch was carried out by an electric aggregate. The presence of the Umbra krameri Walbaum 1792 was confirmed in the waters of the river Lendava; Gakovac, Šušulić and Županja melioration channel s and in the artificial lake near Starogradački Marof, that are sited on the former swamps area. Considering the fact that this species is endangered and rare, we think it is absolutely necessary in Croatia to find the way to protect its still remaining, but rare natural environments.
