Research on School Effectiveness under debate
Abstract
In its beginnings, involving only a limited number of educational researchers, the School Effectiveness theoretical/practical movement was considered to be nothing else than a humble empiric outline of research. Nonetheless, over the past few years, this movement has become the major school of research in educational areas, giving the more relevant contributions in educational decision making for both, general administration and worldwide improvement of schools. Nevertheless, this considerable influence has trigged off many critiques questioning the quality of these contributions. In this paper, a revisionover the main lines of these critiques will be made. This revision will be matched with the actual contributions of the movement in order to bring objective information to evaluate the quality and the appropriateness of the movement legacy. As a consequence, improved ideas for the future operation of this movement will be finally presented.
