Pasaże przemocy, zakątki subwersji. O miastach-menażeriach w cyklu animacji "Miłość, śmierć i roboty"
Abstract
Celem artykułu jest wykazanie, jak w serialu Miłość śmierć i roboty (2019), animowanej antologii science fiction pomysłu Tima Millera i Davida Finchera, dystopijne miasto-menażeria staje się przestrzenią permanentnej dystrybucji stosunków władzy i podległości. Dotyczy to zwłaszcza nadzoru nad tym, co nie-ludzkie – zarówno w znaczeniu sprowadzonego do statusu zwierzęcia człowieka, jak też rzeczywistego żywego stworzenia – poddawanego na terenie zamkniętym różnorakim formom symbolicznego i fizycznego dyscyplinowania. Alians z tym, co zwierzęce, wiąże się więc z możliwością rozspajania opresyjnych reżimów, burzenia hierarchicznego umocowania świata oraz przeformułowywania rządzących w nim nadrzędno-podrzędnych reguł. The purpose of this paper is to show how in the series Love, Death and Robots (2019), an animated science fiction anthology created by Tim Miller, a dystopian city-menagerie becomes the area of permanent distribution of power and submission. It concerns especially supervision over the non-human – meaning both human, but reduced to the status of an animal, and a real living being, subject to various forms of symbolic and physical disciplining in a closed area. In the series, the city is a space of absolute power over animals – over a man treated as an animal and over a real living creature. In the case of the dystopian metropolises shown in the animations, it serves to establish social divisions between “the same” and “the other,” and to demonstrate the absolute power of the imperial rulers. This anthropological authority is not limited to the space of freakshows, anthropological exhibitions and zoos, but applies to every corner of the city where there are no more safe asylums. Alliance with the animal is therefore connected with the possibility of unsealing oppressive regimes, destroying hierarchical authority of the world and reformulating the superior-inferior rules which govern it.
