Investigation of the Relationship Between Mobile Learning Readiness and Individual Innovativeness in Nursing Students
Abstract
Aim: The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between nursing students' mobile learning readiness and their individual innovativeness. Method: The study was conducted from 18 December 2019 to 18 February 2020. The study sample was volunteering nursing students who were educated in a foundation university (n=277). The data were collected by using 'Student Information Form', 'Individual Innovativeness Scale' and 'Mobile Learning Readiness Scale'. Results: The average age of the students was 21.77+- 2.28 years. Of them, 72.20% (n=200) reported not having attended any conference/seminar on innovation. However, 75.50% of them (n=209) followed nursing innovation and 70.00% (n=194) used the Internet to follow nursing innovation. The level of individual innovativeness and mobile learning readiness of the students who follow the innovations related to nursing is higher than those who do not. The class level of nursing students was another variable affecting mobile learning readiness (p<,05). A positive, mild significant relation was found between the mean individual innovativeness score and the mean mobile learning readiness score. The students got the highest score in the 'mobile self-efficacy' sub-dimension, and the individual innovativeness category with the highest distribution is the 'late majority'. Conclusion: Mobile learning methods that promote innovativeness should be used in nursing education, instructors involved in hands-on training should promote themselves, and active learning methods should be used more effectively.
