Les femmes cubaines à l’épreuve de la crise économique
Abstract
The situation of Cuban women is singular in Latin America. The 1959 Revolution facilitated women’s educational and professional integration, enabling them to relegate their household and domestic tasks into the background. However, in the 1990’s context of economic crisis, gender inequalities are accentuated through the sexual division of household labour and paid work, and the visible comeback of feminine prostitution. This article analyses the effects of the crisis on women’s representations, in the public and private spheres of the Cuban society.
