Background. The problem of motivation of educational activity is one of the basic problems of psychology of learning. The effectiveness of the learning process is directly related to the extent to which the motivation for mastering the future profession is high. The aim of the study is a comparative analysis of the educational motivation of the first and second year students of the Faculty of General Medicine. The analysis of factors that negatively affect the level of motivation. Material and methods. 94 first-year students and 102 second-year students of the Faculty of General Medicine of Grodno State Medical University were tested. Psychodiagnostic methods to test students were applied: the study of general motives for learning activity and motivation in the study of specific disciplines in the modification of A.A. Reana and V.A. Yakunin. Results. General motives for studies are established and ranked. The levels of development of internal motivation for a specific clinical subject and factors that prevent a high level of internal motivation are determined. Conclusions. The leading motives for the students of Grodno State Medical University are "professional" and "cognitive". They are motivated for the educational process; they want to acquire deep and solid knowledge, to become highly qualified specialists.
