This study aimed to verify what has been published in the national and international context regarding the association of masculinity and prostate cancer. In order to do so, a systematic review of the literature was carried out using the descriptors “masculinity” and “prostate cancer”, in the PsycINFO, Portal of Capes, Scielo, Ebsco, BVS-PSI and LILACS bases, considering the last five years (2013 to 2017). Twenty-two studies were selected. The results on the association of prostate cancer and masculinity were grouped into three categories: impact on sexual functionality, repercussions on the identity and development of overcoming strategies. It was realized that sociocultural factors, such as gender stereotypes, beliefs and values that contribute to the definition of masculinity, may interfere with the implementation of health care practices. It is necessary professional and structural qualification of the health equipment to deal with the subjective and cultural masculine aspects. It is also important to deconstructthe barriers that keep men away from health services. Results are expected to reaffirm the importance of psychosocial interventions that prioritize improvement in the quality of life of the man.
