PARTICIPATION OF THE REPUBLIC OF KOREA IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE ARCTIC: PROSPECTS AND CONTRADICTIONS

Abstract

The current Arctic study is of great importance. However, insufficient attention has been paid to the problems of interaction between Russian and Republic of Korea in the area of development and scientific & educational communities on these regions. This study focuses on the assessment of resource potential, transport and logistics of the Russian Arctic. Purpose. The study is an analysis of the presence of natural resources in Russia and Korea including in other countries in the Arctic zone and the current state of their use. It also analyzes the application of the methodology for assessing the potentials of Russia and the Republic of Korea in the development of the Arctic and the proposals for the development of this region, based on their existing scientific, educational and innovative potentials. Methodology. Literature review, Comparative study, Data analysis including in theoretical scientific methods, Combined analysis of complex development of resources and the Arctic space. Results. Assessment of the transport and logistics features of the Arctic. Practical implications. This study will help the Russian government to recognize the importance of the Arctic. New materials of the present study that differ from previous studies can view the advantages of the Northeast navigation for shipping compared to other sea routes. Then there are certain advantages and limitations in this matter. It’s considered that the strategic issues can include the development of the Russian Arctic zone, the participation of the Republic of Korea in the development of the Arctic and the development of the Northern Sea Route.
