Clinical characterization of pregnant women positive for COVID-19

Introduction: During pregnancy, physiological changes predispose pregnant women to respiratory symptoms, which, associated with changes in immunity, may be factors that determine the evolution of SARS-COV-2 infection. Objective: To characterize the clinical manifestations of pregnant women positive for COVID-19. Methods: An observational, descriptive, cross-sectional study was carried out at the ¨Luis Li Trigent¨ Teaching Polyclinic, from January to July 2021. The study universe was made up of 29 pregnant women who tested positive for Polymerase Chain Reaction and who were registered in the provincial database. The variables studied were: age, gestation time, occupation, comorbidity, symptoms and clinical form. Results: 68.96% of the pregnant women were between 20 and 34 years old, 41.37% were in the third trimester of pregnancy and 48.27% were housewives. The comorbidity that stood out was bronchial asthma in 27.58%, the symptom was rhinorrhea in 37.93% and the mild clinical form in the third trimester of pregnancy in 34.48%. Conclusions: In the study prevails COVID-19 positive pregnant women aged 20 to 34, housewives and in the third trimester of pregnancy. The predominant comorbidity is bronchial asthma, the symptom is rhinorrhea and the mild clinical form. Prenatal control should be aimed at identifying risk factors and comorbidities, so that the mother and the product of conception reach the happy term.
