Scaled multiple holes suction tip for microneurosurgery; Technical note
Abstract
Background and importance: The suction is the multifunctional “left hand” of a right-handed neurosurgeon to be used for suction, retraction, and dissection. The design of feasible suction tips would ease the microneurosurgical procedures. Presentation: We constructed a new suction tip with 3 and 4 holes in different size. Each hole has a 0.5-mm diameter difference with the next hole enabling the surgeon to adjust the suction power. The scaled multiple suction tip was used in 258 aneurysm and 34 arteriovenous malformation (AVM) microneurosurgical procedures. Conclusion: The new suction tip permits easy and precise adjustment of suction power in microneurosirgical operations. Our scaled 3 and 4-hole suction tip is a simple and useful device for controlling the suction power during the microneurosurgeical procedures.
