Les masques en forme de cœur des zones forestières en Afrique centrale
Abstract
Artistic output of the peoples living in forest areas of Central Africa can be viewed as an original complex system. Its formal elements is interrelated with body marks, social structures, figureheads’ nomenclature (chief, nganga, soothsayer, blacksmith), natural signs seen as spirits or ancestors’ presences. This study focuses on the particular archetypes of heartshaped masks.
