The passages in Aristotle's Rhetoric where induction (epagogé) is discussed show it as a very useful kind of argumentation, somehow related to example (paradeígma). This latter is based on the perception of some kind of similarities among the things compared. The characteristics attributed by Aristotle to these forms of argument allow us to propose a framework in which the notion of epagogé can be unified, despite the fact that some parts of Aristotle's works may suggest to understand its different meanings in terms of opposition.
