In the month of May 1940 two warlords clashed. One was formerly a colonel in the First Regiment, where the other arrived when he graduated from Saint Cyr and subsequently became his mentor. But they were totally dissimilar: their conceptions of France, the founding myths of the nation to which they refer, as well as their respective positions conflicted. One was Marshal, the only surviving general-in-chief of the previous war, while the other had just been appointed general. However, the latter would be joined by ardent young men and women, recently or not yet entered into the service, and would be able to coordinate the various resistance movements. With the help of circumstances, which he was able to turn to his advantage, he’ll win.The temporalities used to put this story in perspective are varied, ranging from the frozen time of metaphor and myth, through the linear timeline. But the temporality that proves crucial is the ability to grasp the right time, which at first was used by both protagonists, but would later differentiate them once and for all.
