This article is concerned with words pertaining to olfaction in first and second language French. Focusing on adjective collocates for odeur and parfum in word association tasks and in short written productions, the results show certain preferences for each of these words. A number of similarities and differences between natives and non-natives are noted. The question of typical nativelike language use is raised.
