Complications arising from airway management represent an important cause of anaesthesia-associated morbidity and mortality. Anaesthetic practice itself can lead to preventable harm, a particular example being persistent attempts at direct laryngoscopy that results in delay in employing alternative strategies. Slovene Society of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care Medicine has developed national guidelines for predicted and unpredicted difficult airways management. The purpose of this article is to present these guidelines in order to unify the choice of technigues, equipment and knowledge about difficult airway management among Slovenian anaesthesiologists.
