Le projet ALeRT dans son contexte national et européen

Abstract

The ALeRT project (Archaeology, Coasts and Terrestrial Warming), developed along the Channel-Atlantic facades of France, proposes to contribute to the knowledge and governance of coastal areas and their cultural heritage; the diachronic approach is centered on the crucial question of the vulnerability of this heritage, in the face of the pressures exerted by the effects of climate change and the increasing anthropization of shorelines; it is based on the principle of "preservation by record". In partnership with the various actors of the territory, dedicated tools have been developed with the dual objective of advancing scientific knowledge and supporting coastal and heritage management. The implementation includes the involvement of various communities in the use of these tools (Conservatoire du littoral, guards of the coastal network, local authorities and public) in a process of participatory scientific construction and citizenship. This project is part of an initiative developed more widely at the European level, e.g. within the Scottish Coastal Archeology and the Problem of Erosion (SCAPE) program, which has been extended since 2012 by the Scottish Coastal Heritage at Risk (SCHARP) project.
