In the case of the basic education in Brazil, the proposals for a systematic introduction of nanoscience and nanotechnology (NC & NT) are rather incipient. To overcome the lack of innovative and interdisciplinary environments devoted to the teaching of contemporary science, the institutions of higher education should apply for the grants offered by national agencies to develop effective activities in the basic school. This is necessary to promote a scientific literacy in every level of education. In the midst of the different educational challenges, several actions and initiatives to improve the teachers training in the primary and secondary education, in various areas of knowledge, are under debate by the Brazilian Government. In this context, we highlight the program of support for interdisciplinary laboratories of educators’ qualification (LIFE), which aims to select proposals for creating interdisciplinary teacher training laboratories. This article presents a proposal for the creation of a laboratory for interdisciplinary training of educators in nanoscience and nanotechnology, called LIFENano/IFSP, which interacts with the institutional scholarship program of initiation in teaching (PIBID / CAPES). By analyzing the proposals, taking into account the perceptions of the undergraduate students, it was detected that these programs constitute a strategic and innovative action to promote, in parallel with the continuous training of teachers, the introduction of concepts of nanoscience, nanotechnology, and other important areas of contemporary science, into the national plans of education and teaching practices.
