Since the advent of digital tools, educational institutions, especially in higher education, have integrated various digital platforms for education such as Learning Management Systems (LMS), cloud computing, and multimedia servers, among others. The COVID-19 pandemic has further accelerated the adoption of these technologies, leading to an increase in the ecological and digital footprint associated with this digital transformation. The intensive use of virtual classrooms during the pandemic has resulted in a rise in carbon emissions, and this tension between innovation and ecological impact remains a continuous challenge. The utilization of digital technologies in education also highlights the need to address social inequalities in digital skills and work on them for all citizens. The mission of a digital coordinator within a university department aims to provide support to both teachers and learners in order to foster the emergence of responsible digital behaviors. This endeavor will require long-term planning and a shift in existing practices, with an emphasis on the development of sustainable and environmentally friendly practices. Overall, a concerted effort is crucial to nurture digital skills that are both effective and sustainable.
