Considerations about contemporary Portuguese poetry: reading of four poets
Abstract
In this article, we present some configurations of contemporary Portuguese poetry. Based on studies of Portuguese researchers such as Gaston Cruz (1973; 2008), Fernando Pinto do Amaral (1991) and Rosa Maria Martelo (2007) that recognize this poetry as a reflective unfolding of modern poetry, however, marked by a multiplicity of diction and poetic individualities, the study will comment poems by Manuel de Freitas, Ana Luisa Amaral, José Tolentino Mendonça and Maria do Rosário Pedreira, previously chosen corpus of portugueses poets who have been researched as representative of that poetry. We have as a key to the analysis the ideas of “too much” and “too little” poetry postulated by Amaral (1991) to understand contemporary lyric, to which we propose a third key as a synthesis of the two.
