TRANSLATION PROBLEMS OF VIETNAMESE IN ALEXANDER PUSHKIN’S “THE TALE OF THE FISHERMAN AND THE FISH”
Abstract
The article is devoted to the issues of translating a literary work into another language. Literary translation is the oldest and most complex type of communicative translation. A.S. Pushkin is one of the greatest international poets. He made an irreplaceable contribution to the development of Russian and world literature. His works have been loved by many generations of readers in Western and Eastern countries. In Vietnam, there are two translations of “The Tale of the Fisherman and the Fish,” but the most popular and credible work is the work of the famous poet Vu Dinh Lien and a literary critic Le Chi Vien. This article analyses the following features of the translation: the preservation of the semantic capacity of the original, the transfer of national identity and historical flavour, the possibility of transferring the individual style of the Russian genius. The relevance of the work lies in the fact that the problems of translating A. Pushkin’s “The Tale of the Fisherman and the Fish” from Russian into Vietnamese have not been given enough attention in Vietnamese literary criticism. The main goal of the article is to study the content and stylistic features in the transfer of Pushkin’s fairy tale into the Vietnamese language. The author of the article tries to compare the original and its translation, highlight and analyse the shortcomings in the translation into Vietnamese, and determine the degree of equivalence between the translation and the original text. The practical significance of the work lies in the fact that the materials of this study can be used in practical classes on translation of Russian literature for Vietnamese. Comparative and historical-cultural methods serve as research methods. The author of the article concluded that the translation of “The Tale of the Fisherman and the Fish” performs only an exploratory function.
