In 2004, Decree Nº. 5.154 extinguished the separation between general and professional training established in 1997 by Decree Nº. 2.208. Thus, the Integrated form in High School offered in the institutions of Professional and Technological Education was created, with the intention of articulating spheres of Brazilian education that historically were isolated. In this article, we discuss the objectives of Integrated High School (EMI) and emphasize the importance of teaching History in technical courses, considering it a means to achieve a counter-hegemonic pedagogical goal. The methodology had a bibliographic character, considering that we consulted works that deal with EMI, History teaching, as well as documents produced by IFRN, an institution that we use for research. We noticed, in the documents, the commitment of that institution to comprehensive and polytechnic education. Further investigation is needed as to find out whether these principles have been observed in daily practice.
