Preparation and characterization of hydroxyl-terminated telechelic polyisobutene
Abstract
Polyisobutene with double living chain terminal was prepared by controlled living cationic polymerization using 5-tert-butyl-1,3-bis(2-chloroisopropyl) benzene/titanium tetrachloride initiator system, polyisobutene with allyl chloride terminal structure was prepared with 1,3-butadiene as end-capping agent, and then double hydroxyl-terminated telechelic polyisobutene was prepared via the hydrolysis of polyisobutene with allyl chloride terminal structure in the presence of tetrabutylammonium hydroxide. The effect of end-capping time on endcapping reaction was studied, and the thermal stability and low temperature property of the resulting polymer were discussed. The results showed that in the presence of tetrabbutylammonium hydroxide, the polymer with hydroxyl- terminated group prepared via nucleophilic substitution method of chlorine-containing chain terminal had high conversion rate, reaction time was short, the raw materials were cheap and easily available, the preparation process was simple and convenient, and the resulting polymer had excellent thermal stability and low temperature performance.
