In Makkah, the companions of the Holy Prophet (SAW) used to hear the Holy Qur'┐ n in a single dialect of Quraish, while in Medinah they used to hear it in different dialects. Later on, in the era of Tabi‘┴ n, various modes of the Holy Qur'┐ n came into existence which became a burning issue among the researchers and scholars of Arabic language. Therefore, the scholars of Arabic language devised some principles and conditions for these Modes of recitations. Those modes which fulfil the given principles and conditions would be considered Qur'┐ n, while the rests would be considered Sh┐ ╘ . In this article, a scholarly discussion has been presented regarding modes of recitations.
