The influence of the social and family context in the child’s socio-emotional and cognitive development is undeniable. The objective of this paper is to underline the active role of parenthood in the child’s cognitive development. To this end, several antecedents in the area are revised with a particular emphasis on the studies that analyze the effect of the different parental practices on the child’s executive functioning. It is expected that the integration of these contributions favor the development of intervention strategies aimed at promoting and strengthening adequate parental practices, so as to have an impact on the children’s cognitive development in a positive manner.
