(STUDY OF THE H2SO4 ACTIVATION TOWARD NATURAL CLAY INTERCALATION PROCESS WITH AL2O3)
Abstract
The research on the activation and pillarization natural clay (bentonite) has been performed. Clays were characterized by APN, XRD, N2 adsorption isotherms, FTIR, and the total acidity was measured using ammonia adsorption methods. The results showed that the optimum activation occurs at concentrations of 1.5 M H2SO4 with montmorillonite optimum percentage of 91.34% and 193.96% of the increased acidity value of the value of bentonite natural acidity. Physical and chemical characters after ntercalation also showed that increased levels of aluminum (57.54%), specific surface area (150.59%), total pore volume (73.24%) and total acidity (203.50%) of bentonite natural. The mean pore decreased 10.27% after activation and decreased 30.87% after the intercalation process.
