This study presents a brief systematization of the debate over family policies, considering their origins and conceptions, as well as their trajectory in Europe and Latin America. This systematization is the fruit of a bibliographic study and aims to give visibility to the issue of family policies in the field of social policy, especially in recent decades. This discussion has been quite consolidated in Europe and is being consolidated in Latin America. Family policies are inscribed in the set of social policies and have important impacts on the life of families. They encompass not only legislative measures, but also assistance and services, as well as the wide range of actions aimed at improving the well-being of families and alleviating the pressure that they suffer in the exercise of their responsibilities.
