Abstract

It discusses the recent initiatives of social treatment of poverty in Uruguay with the aim to demonstrate the advance the punitive logic about behavior of the poor. The initiatives selected are: family allowances the Equity Plan main program conditioned income transfer, the Plan of the 7 areas-that articulates security and assistance programs, and the recently approved Law on Misdemeanors, reissued, in some of its contents, the English Poor Laws. The paper analyzes the aspects that constitute the common denominator among those seemingly diverse initiatives
