This article investigates the manifestation of violence, understood as any action that annihilates or reduces someone's dignity and which is based on the foundations of authoritarianism, relating this behavior to Brazilian culture. This point of view is based on studies in Sociology, Anthropology, Pedagogy and History, which highlight that, as it is formed along colonial lines, violence in Brazilian society is based on structural elements, which have at their core the confrontation of identities. As, in their relationship with the adult, the child is considered an another, the article conceives violence against this social category from the perspective of identities and focuses on its representation in literary texts. In this procedure, we analyze, among others, the texts “Não chore, papai” (2011), by Sergio Faraco, Cena de rua(1994), by Ângela Lago, “Fragilidade” (2003), by Jane Tutikian, which have children or adolescents as protagonists, and support is sought in studies of Linguistics, Semiotics, Narratology and legal documents. In its development, the article explains the meanings of symbolic language and concludes that, by representing violence, literature speaks out against it, denouncing its presence in the social environment.
