Important Texts for Studying Ayurveda

This academic article aims to describe the significant texts for studying Ayurveda. The article utilized literature reviews and researched information from the related books, articles, and research. The findings reveal that Ayurveda is a holistic health care related to human of life and maintaining good health by being present with the body and mind. Ayurveda is an ancient Indian medical science that has been present since the Vedic period. The concept of Ayurveda is also found in Sanskrit literature, however, the whole content of Ayurveda in the literature is incomplete. Therefore, the complete texts which are mainly used for the study of Ayurveda both in theory and practice, are “Bṛhattrayī”, the greatest text of Ayurveda, including 1) Carakasaṃhitā2) Suśrutasaṃhitā 3) Aṣṭāṅgahṛdya and “Laghutrayī”, the minor texts of Ayurveda, include 1) Mādhvanidāna 2) śārngadharasaṃhitā 3) Bhāvaprakāśa. These texts are the basis of all Ayurvedic knowledge, leading students to thoroughly understand Ayurvedic principles
