Inductively coupled plasma emission spectroscopy technique (ICP) raised as a step forward in traditional emission spectroscopy, has allowed the quantification, even from a trace, of the elements of a sample by means of the elimination of most of the chemical interferences. In this paper, a view of the subject is given, introducing the reader to this technique through the consideration of the essential parts of the ICP system, of the way to proceed when a qualitative and quantitative analysis is to be carried out, and its possible applications, specially in hydraulic binders, which development will bring the opportunity for future researches.
